Things are hotting up.

I’ve been a little quiet with the blog posts these last couple of weeks. The wheel arrived a couple of days before I went on holiday so after an initial test run I had to pack up and enjoy a week off.

I’m back now and production is under way. I’m still trying to get used to working in a new space. It’s funny how you think you know what you’re doing and can confidently sit at the wheel and make things, but when you’re suddenly put into a new room with a different wheel then it all feels unfamiliar and it’s like starting over again. I’ve definitely thrown some odd pots but I”m not being too hard on myself and just throwing anything I fancy.

The kiln has been a learning curve but the bisque fire went well with only a few plates cracking as I loaded too much on top of them (I think). The kiln is currently running its first glaze fire and I’m sooooo excited to open it and see the results.

I bought six glazes which I’m testing on various pieces and I’ve no idea how they will turn out. I’m trying to keep my expectations low as I know how problematic it can be and frustrating when the pictures of the glaze you see online is nothing like what comes out of the kiln. There is so much to learn about ‘heat work’ so these are just my first steps.

I’ll be back with the results…!
